Evening Delight
This last January of 2019 I was on my third trip to Oahu to visit Roy Tabora and spend time painting alongside him, talking about life and hanging out. His lovely wife, Christine makes the most incredible meals and is an incredible lady by the way! Roy is full of knowledge and wisdom and not only about art and the artistic journey.
On this trip I had brought this painting to complete and was having trouble deciding about a few things concerning the sky composition and mountain range receding into the distance. During this time of artistic angst Roy asked me one simply yet excellent question, “Do you want this to be really good or awesome?” Of course, I said “awesome.” Well, more work needed to be done and he then proceeded to explain why some things ought to make more artistic sense and encouraged me as I changed the composition over the next three days until you see what is above.
He’ll say when you thank him that it’s your talent doing the work, but every student needs a great master to guide him or her. Roy is just that and no matter how times I get the privilege of learning and hanging out with this new friend and colleague, I feel forever grateful for his guidance and friendship. Truly a wonderful man and amazing artist!
